Camping
Whether it’s by the beach, in a resort-style setting, or tucked into the trees, there are tons of amazing RV campsites in Sarasota. Myakka River State Park has full hookups and private sites for as little at $27 per night. Plus, the park is an attraction on its own where you can hike trails and see Florida wildlife or go canoeing on Florida’s wild and scenic Myakka River. Watch out for alligators!
For those who prefer the upscale experience and safety of an RV resort, the Sun-N-Fun RV Resort in Sarasota has poolside fun and is totally pet-friendly. There are also plenty of outdoor games and arts and crafts opportunities for all ages.
Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium
Get up close and personal with sea creatures of all kinds including sharks, sea turtles, and manatees. Your kids can even stroke a sea star or a horseshoe crab in the marine lab’s touch tank. The marine lab hosts kayaking tours of Sarasota Bay for ages 11 and up for $28 per person. Look for special scheduled events when you visit like full moon kayak tours or turtle walks on Saturdays in the summer.
Sarasota Ski-A-Rees
Conveniently right next door to the Mote Marine Lab (because who really wants to park the RV again), the stadium for the Sarasota Ski-A-Rees is where you go to see some amazing feats on water skis. The Ski-A-Rees do a show most weekend afternoons from February through June. Admission is free.
The Ringling
This extensive property is named after John Ringling, one of the famous Ringling brothers that started the namesake circus. There is so much to do at this educational amusement park, you’ll have to stay a few days to do it all. Visit the circus museum to learn more about Ringling and his trade, see the gorgeous 56-room Ca’ D’ Zan Mansion the Ringlings built, or just stroll through the fabulous gardens. There are many museum-hosted events at The Ringling that foster creativity and learning for all ages.
Kid’s Comedy Lab
If you feel like catching a show, the Florida Studio Theatre has a kid-friendly comedy hour filled with laughs. The improv comedy groups make up stories, scenes, and songs on the spot. They also encourage audience participation, so tell your kids to get up on the stage and be silly. Check the schedule in advance to make sure the Kid’s Comedy Lab will be performing during your visit.
There’s so much to see in Sarasota, no matter the season. Next time you take the RV on a trip to this city of sun and fun, make sure to explore some of the hotspots above. Each one inspires laughter, learning, and a sense of adventure that any explorer would be proud of.
