RV Winterization Tips
1. Drain Your Tanks and Water Heater
The first thing you’ll need to do for your winterization is to drain and rinse your black and gray tanks. Next, you’ll need to drain the water heater.
2. Bypass Water Heater
After the water heater is drained, you’ll have to bypass it because you don’t want to get antifreeze in your water heater. Most RVs are set up to make bypassing the water heater easy. Just open the outside panel and adjust the valves so that the lines leading into the tank aren’t open. If you have any questions about this step, contact your RV dealer.
3. Drain Fresh Water/Low Points
The next step is to drain the freshwater tank and all the low points.
4. Hookup Antifreeze to Pump
You’ll need a gallon of antifreeze and a siphoning kit. Hook it up to the pump and turn on the pump.
5. Open Faucets
Throughout the RV, you’ll need to open all of the faucets inside and out, including the toilets and showers, until the water turns pink with antifreeze.
6. Antifreeze in P-Traps
Lastly, after you’ve closed all the faucets and turned off the pump, you’ll need to pour antifreeze down the sinks into the P-traps to ensure no leftover water freezes and causes damage.
